information contact: More Than 60 Alpena High School Students Learn On-Site Besser Company is celebrating Michigan Manufacturers week by hosting students and counselors from Alpena High School and Michigan Manufacturer’s association representatives on Friday, 12 May. Participants will be taken on a "Journey into Manufacturing." Four distinct, in-depth tours will be offered: welding, machine trades, drafting and marketing. The tours are designed to show students what skills and education is needed for employment in these occupations. Manufacturing plays an important role in the economy of the State. According to information provided by the Michigan Manufacturer’s Association (MMA) there are nearly 17,000 manufacturing facilities in Michigan and approximately 963,000 of the state’s workers are directly employed in manufacturing activities. Michigan has created more than 78,000 manufacturing jobs since 1991.The weekly earnings of manufacturing employees are 22% higher than the average Michigan worker. The tours coincide with Michigan Manufacturer’s Week (7-13 May) which is sponsored by the Michigan Manufacturers Association. Besser Company is one of 19 companies throughout the State that is investing in the young people of their communities by hosting tours. This is the second consecutive year that Besser has participated in the MMA tour program. XXXXX |
